History

The name Berserker comes from a Norse warrior in the Norwegian sagas. He was famous for being abnormally strong and fighting with armour. The town was named by Charles Archer the pastoralist, who spent his time between Norway and Queensland. The Scottish-born man was something of a pioneer in Rockhampton.

Berserker is found between two creeks, Moores Creek and Frenchmans Creek. There are a number of scenic walks on both. The town is home to a shopping centre with plenty of familiar brands and great places to eat. Berserker has heritage-listed buildings such as St John’s Anglican Church and North Rockhampton Borough Chambers.
