The town of Yangebup is one of Perth’s southern suburbs. The title comes from the nearby Lake with the same name. It has a population of 6,000 people.

History

The name Yangebup dates back to the 1840s. It comes from the Aboriginal word for the native bulrush found in the area. The name wasn’t officially recognised until the late 1970s.

There are many community groups in the town. One is local residents group The Yangebup Progress Association.

Leisure opportunities include football, walking and cycling. There are several parks and natural playgrounds in the area. Yangebup Lake makes up part of the wider Beeliar Regional Park.

Yangebup has two primary schools, a vet, medical centre, shopping centre, supermarket and other amenities. It is just a 26 kilometre drive into Perth’s CBD.
