Welcome to Yanchep, WA
The coastal suburb of Yanchep is situated 56km north of Perth’s central business district and it was developed by entrepreneur Alan Bond in the 1970s to host the Americas Cup Yachting Race. It was originally a small cray-fishing settlement and it sits within the local government area of The City of Wanneroo. The suburb has a population of over 4,000 people.
History
Until 1970, the area was mainly a sheep station. Alan Bond purchased 20,000 acres of land with the intention of creating a satellite city of around 20,000 people with a marina and many other facilities. The project ran into financial difficulties in the late 1970s due to a slowing down of the anticipated growth in the area. At this point, the project was brought out by Tokyu Corporation.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Yanchep boasts many modern amenities including a brand new shopping centre with a full range of shops. There is also an industrial area and a veterinary surgery. The marina was completed in 1974 and the area is established as a tourist destination.
There are schools in the area and students have the option to attend the Yanchep District High School and the Mindarie Senior College located 17km away. There is a regular bus service into Perth and easy access to the major road network.
