History
Named after the American mineral surveyor Thomas Price Moore, Tom Price was gazetted in 1964. It was built to service the Mt Tom Price Mine. The first houses began construction in 1965, and over 1200 have been built so far. At 747 metres above sea level, Tom Price is the highest town in Western Australia.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Tom Price is something of a desert oasis, and a surprisingly affluent settlement thanks to the Western Australian resource boom. It has a modern shopping centre and excellent sports facilities, and is the closest town to Karijini National Park. Mt Nameless and Millstream Chichester National Park are two other major local attractions. Tom Price is also known for its rich artistic scene, with many painters and photographers operating out of the town.
