History

It was settled in the late 1800s and named after Swanbourne in Buckinghamshire, England. Swanbourne was the name of the family home belonging to Sir Thomas Fremantle, after whom the WA town was named.

Many housing estates were created in the 1900s and the town is served by a railway link to the city.
