Stirling is a Perth suburb that lies 10km north of the central business district. It’s almost entirely residential, and falls under the City of Stirling local government area. Stirling has a population of more than 9,110.

History

A relatively new suburb, Stirling used to form part of Balcatta. It was declared its own suburb in 1976, and named after James Stirling, the first governor of Western Australia. The Stirling area is built up over wetlands, which were mainly used for farming up until the 1960s. Housing estates then took over as the suburb was developed.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Despite urbanisation, Stirling still retains a lush, wetlands feel. Various parks are dotted about the suburb, as well as Sheldrake Reserve and a large golf club. The Stirling Village Shopping Centre features an IGA keeps most of the suburb’s residents supplied. The Osborne Park Hospital is based in Stirling, as is the Stirling Farmers Market.
