Scarborough is a beachside suburb of Western Australia 14 kilometres north-west of the city centre in Stirling, It has a population of over 14,000 and is a 20-minute drive from Perth’s central business district.

History

The suburb of Scarborough gets its name from the English beach resort of Scarborough in North Yorkshire. In 1885, a journalist from Sydney raved about the quality of the local beach. After such publicity, many people and estate agents discovered the area of land.

The land was eventually sold to a man called Patrick Callaghan in 1892. He divided the land into blocks and sold them. Callaghan also named one of the streets Scarborough Road. It later became Drabble Road.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Scarborough attracts many visitors and is known for its beautiful beach with white sand and blue water. The area offers great watersports including swimming, windsurfing and fishing. There are also lots of restaurants, cafes and takeaway outlets in the town.

The suburb has some good pubs, bars and live entertainment venues. You can catch a bus to the city with ease too.
