Ocean Reef is a suburb of northern Perth, located within the City of Joondalup. 28km north-northwest of Perth, it has a population of over 8,000.

History

Ocean Reef was named in 1974 by developers after a line of reef that is visible a few kilometres offshore from the suburb. Prior to this, the suburb was named Beaumaris.

The suburb is divided into two by Hodges Drive. The development on the south side of the suburb is referred to as “old” Ocean Reef by the locals despite there only being a few years’ difference between the two.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Ocean Reef is home to the Beaumaris Shopping Centre in the north and the Ocean Reef Shopping Centre in the south. There are also three primary schools in the suburb and a dune walkway and a cycle path on the coast.

The suburb is located 8km north of Hillarys Boat Harbour, a popular ocean reef boat harbour that provides a public launching ramp for boats.
