part of the Perth metropolitan area and located 3km from the central business district.

Leederville was originally included in the vast area controlled by the Perth Road Board District. Residential development progressed from the 1880s, following the completion of the Fremantle to Guildford rail line in 1881. Leeder Estates was sold to developers and subdivided in 1890-1891. Leederville’s character derives from the working class origins of the local community. Many of the humble workers’ cottages remain, while local icons such as some Oxford Street shop fronts, the Leederville Hotel and the Luna Cinema are essentially unchanged.
