Guildford is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia and part of the local government area the City of Swan. It is 12 kilometres northeast of the city centre and has a population of just over 1,880.

History

Guildford was established in 1829 on the Swan River, close to a freshwater stream.
The suburb was the centre of the Swan River colony before Perth became the more dominant town.

Guildford was the home of Lew Whiteman and his family, who established Mussel Pool as a picnic area for their employees. The original home of the Whiteman family are now tea rooms, and the house is one of the oldest standing homes in Western Australia.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Garrick Theatre was established in former stables behind town hall that were used by the town’s councillors while they attended meetings. It is the oldest operating theatre group in Western Australia.
