History
The name Gidgegannup comes from the word Noongar, which means “Place where spears are made”. The town was first sighted in 1852 by passing surveyors.

Only a small amount of information is known of this area. There were a few Aboriginal groups that inhabited the hills in the early 1830s.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

A large amount of natural vegetation and farming land remain in the area. The town is famous for its Agricultural Society which has run over 60 shows at the Gidgegannup showground. Residents and locals can actively partake in agricultural events and shows including Small Farm Field Day and the Gidge Show.
