History
The area of Derby was bombed by Japanese planes during World War II. There was an air base and jetty in town used by the Australian forces.
In the 1920s, Derby was the terminus of the first scheduled aviation service in the country. It was called West Australian Airways Ltd. They had their first fight in 1921.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
The local Indigenous culture plays a large part in the community of Derby. There are two festivals held every year in the town including the Mowanjum Festival and the Boab Festival.
Derby puts on the occasional concert for locals and visitors. There is also a pub and two schools in the area.
