Dandaragan is a town in Western Australia. It’s located in the Wheatbelt region, 170km from Perth. This small settlement has a population of just over 400.

History

Dandaragan’s origins lie in 1848, when the first land was leased around Machamulla Springs. The name dates back to 1850, derived from an Aboriginal word for “good kangaroo country”. A farm was also built in 1850, soon followed by a police station. Dandaragan became an official township in 1858.

Dandaragan boasts several Heritage-listed sites. One of these is Aggie’s Cottage, a lovely old house where various events take place. St Anne’s Church is another site of historical significance. Dandaragan is well known for its award-winning beef and olive oil. The area it’s built on, the Dandaragan Plateau, is a haven for local wildlife. Pioneer Park is a popular spot, with barbeque facilities and a caravan park. It also features a special rotunda depicting Dandaragan’s history.
