Cottesloe is a beachside suburb of Perth. It falls under the City of Cottesloe local government area, and has a population of more than 8,700. Cottesloe is about 12km west of Perth’s central business district.

History

Founded in 1895, Cottesloe has served as a breezy holiday haven for well over a century. The Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club was formed in 1909, pioneering the concept of surf safety. Prime Minister John Curtin lived in Cottesloe from 1941 to 1945, and Cottesloe Beach was recently named the second best family beach in the entire world by Lonely Planet.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Cottesloe remains a true Western Australian icon. The laid-back beach offers everything from surfing to swimming to beach cricket, and there’s lots of room for everyone to enjoy it. Plenty of lovely cafes and restaurants are tucked away down Marine Parade, and the shady Cottesloe Esplanade is perfect for picnics. Sculpture by the Sea is held here every year, which transforms the entire beach into one enormous art exhibition.
