History
Collie is named after the Collie River that runs through it. The river is in turn named after the Scottish explorer Alexander Collie. He was one of the first Europeans to explore the area. The town was built because of coal findings in the area in the 1880s.
Collie won the Australian Tidy Towns Competition in 2006 for its efforts in recycling and waste management.
