Canning Vale is a large suburb in the south of Perth and lies 20km from the CBD. Its local government areas are the City of Canning and the City of Gosnells. It has a population of over 30,000.

History

Canning Vale was known locally as North Jandakot until 1925. It now takes its name from the Canning River which is located 3km to the suburb’s northeast.

Until the late 1970s, the suburb was mostly made up of market gardens and dairy farms. This is due to its swampy terrain and high abundance of permanent fresh water.

Developers of the residential areas have added many landscapes into their developments in order to drain the swampy area.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Canning Vale is home to five primary schools, a private school, and a high school. It also has many churches, a Sikh temple, a Hindu temple, and a community centre. There are also two golf courses.
