Australind is a town in the Shire of Harvey, WA, 12km northeast of Bunbury’s CBD. In the local government area of the Shire of Harvey, it has a population of around 12,000.

History

The name is a combination of Australia and India. It was named Australind due to the belief that the area could be used for breeding horses for the British Indian Army.

In 1840, the Western Australian Land Company purchased 103,000 acres and planned to create an English-style village. However, the settlement began to fail due to poor soils and too little rainfall in the summer and too much in the winter.

In the 20th century, the area started to see more development. By 2001, it became a mostly residential town.

The town is home to the Australind Village Shopping Centre, the Treendale Shopping Centre, and the Bunbury Golf Club which hosts the South West Open every year.
