Yarrambat is a town that is located to the north-east of Melbourne. It is approximately 24km from the Central Business District. It has a population of 1,511.

History

In 1840, Europeans arrived here. In 1891, a man called Frederick Tanck bought some land in the area, and for some time this area was called Tancks Corner. In 1929, the name changed to Yarrambat. This is an indigenous Australian word meaning “high hills” or “pleasant view”.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Today Yarrambat has a number of facilities including a vet’s, two schools, a shop and a fire station. Of interest to people visiting the area are the war memorial, and the railway museum. The Yarrambat Park has picnic areas, a golf course and more. The golf course has a bar, and can host events. The course is open everyday from 6am until 8pm.
