Wonga Park is a locality in Greater Melbourne, 29km north-east of the CBD. Its local government area is the City of Manningham. It has a population of around 4000.

History

Wonga Park gets its name from the Wonga Park grazing property, which itself gets its name from Simon Wonga. He was an elder of the Wurundjeri indigenous people of Melbourne.

Wonga Park came into the hands of an insurance company in 1889 and was sold. In 1895, a primary school called Warrandyte East opened but changed its name to Wonga Park in 1898.

Wonga Park has boundaries to the west by Jumping Creek, the north by Yarra River, the east by Brushy Park and Old Homestead, and the south by Holloway Road.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Wonga Park is home to a tennis club, a cricket club, a golf course, and a few horse riding clubs. Due to the Yarra River being close by, canoeing is a popular activity.
