Wangaratta Horizontal Boring Pty Ltd has been a prominent player in the boring and drilling industry for over 36 years. We have gained a reputation for our pioneering efforts in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology and are the first company to introduce steerable directional borers. Known for our expertise, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable service, our team ensures that every underground boring and drilling project is completed with efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Our fleet equips us adequately to handle projects of all sizes. For smaller projects, we rely on the Vermeer 20x22 Series 2, while the Vermeer 36x50 Series2 machines are ideal for medium to large-scale works. For challenging rock drilling, we utilise the Vermeer 40x55DR Series 3, and for large to extra-large projects, the Goodeng GD600 is employed. We also have a comprehensive range of supporting equipment, such as trailer-mounted vacuum units, trucks, excavators, backhoes, and grout machines. All our equipment is operated by skilled, experienced, and fully licensed professionals.
At Wangaratta Horizontal Boring, we ensure minimal disruption to the surrounding environment as we install underground services such as water mains, gas lines, stormwater systems, sewerage, power lines, and telecommunications infrastructure. Our expertise extends to drilling through roads, highways, railways, rivers, and even environmentally sensitive areas. With decades of experience and a commitment to excellence, we remain the preferred choice for clients seeking reliable and efficient boring services.

Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is a trenchless method used to install underground utilities, such as pipes and cables, with minimal surface disruption. It involves drilling a pilot hole along a predetermined path and then expanding it to accommodate the required installation.
We handle a wide range of projects, including water mains, gas lines, stormwater systems, sewerage lines, power lines, and telecommunications infrastructure. We also drill under roads, highways, railways, rivers, and environmentally protected areas.
HDD minimises disruption by avoiding open trench excavation. It preserves the landscape, reduces the risk of damage to existing infrastructure, and prevents soil erosion, making it ideal for sensitive or environmentally protected areas.
Our fleet includes the Vermeer 20x22 Series 2 for smaller jobs, the Vermeer 36x50 Series 2 for mid-large scale projects, the Vermeer 40x55DR Series 3 for rock drilling, and the Goodeng GD600 for large tasks. We also use supporting equipment like vacuum units, trucks, and excavators.
We can drill through various materials, including soil, rock, and clay. Our equipment is designed to tackle a range of terrains, ensuring precision and minimal disturbance to the environment.
We can install pipes ranging in size from 25 mm to 1.45 m in diameter, depending on the requirements of the project. Our equipment is versatile and can accommodate both small and large pipe installations.
The duration of a project depends on its size, complexity, and the terrain. Smaller jobs can be completed in a few days, while larger projects may take several weeks. We provide realistic timelines before starting any work.
Yes, our horizontal boring technology is ideal for working in confined spaces or areas where traditional excavation methods are not feasible. This includes working under roads, buildings, and other obstacles.
