The suburb of Templestowe Lower is 14km north-east of Melbourne’s central business district. It is within the local government area of the City of Manningham. The area’s boundaries extend to the Yarra River in the North and the Ruffey Creek in the east. It has a population of over 13,000 people.

History

The original land purchase was of 5,120 acres by a Sydney solicitor by the name of Frederic Unwin. This was carried out under the quickly revoked special survey regulations that allowed purchases at £1.00 an acre.

The Post Office in the suburb opened in 1902 and operated right up until the 1970s. The area was a popular settling area for many European immigrants.
