Sunshine West is a suburb 13-16km west of Melbourne. It has a population of over 16,000. A residential and industrial area, Sunshine West bounded by Forrest Street in the north. To the sound lies Boundary Road, Kororoit Creek is in the east, and the Western Ring Road is in the west.

History

Settlement of the area dates back from the 1920s with the development of the Sunshine Heights Estate. Substantial development began later, with rapid growth from the 1970s through to the 1980s.

Sunshine West has an ethnically diverse population. It is home to refugees and immigrants from Europe, Asia, and the Pacific.

Primarily a residential and industrial area, Sunshine West has many features and landmarks. These include the Croatian Catholic Centre, the West Sunshine Community Centre, and the Ainsworth, Buckingham, and Norm Talintyre Reserve. It’s home to the Ardeer railway station and many schools.
