Sunshine North is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. It is 12km west of the Melbourne CBD and has a population of 10,637.

History

The Wurundjeri people occupied the area for over 40,000 years before European settlement started in the 1860s. The area developed slowly and had to fight for basic resources. In 1891, there was a typhoid outbreak due to lack of clean water.

The Sunshine North post office opened in 1958. The suburb grew quickly, with many migrants settling in the area. Sunshine North was part of the City of Sunshine until 1994, when the cities merged and it became part of the City of Brimbank.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Sunshine North hosts a soccer club called the Melbourne Knights. It features many stores, a primary school and a family entertainment complex.

The suburb has a large population with Vietnamese roots and is very multicultural in general.
