St Arnaud is a town in the Wimmera region in Victoria. Located 244km northwest of Melbourne in the Shire of Northern Grampians local government area, it has a population of over 2,600.
History
St Arnaud is named to honour French Marshal Jacques Leroy de Saint Arnaud, commander-in-chief of the army of the East. It’s one of a number of towns and streets in Australia that is named after places and people from the Crimean War.
Situated on the main route between Ballarat and Mildura, it’s a former gold mining town that was settled in the mid-1850s. The post office opened in 1856.
Today it is home to many well-preserved historic buildings and a number of beautiful gardens.

The town is known for its many pubs. It is also home to an annual festival which includes music concerts, a market day, and many exhibitions and displays.
