St Albans is a multicultural residential suburb 15km north-west of Melbourne. It has a population of over 35,000 people.

History

St Albans was established in 1887 as a town which provided easy access to Melbourne. A post office was opened in 1888 and development began, though it was hindered by the depression in the late 1890s.

After World War II, a great number of displaced people, including many European migrants, came to St Albans. This helped to establish the diversity for which the suburb is known today.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

St Albans has a busy shopping precinct located around Main Road with many shops, restaurants and cafes. The population is served by a large number of schools and colleges as well as the Victoria University.

The suburb is bordered by a number of fantastic parks and reserves which include the Kororoit Creek and Brimbank Park.
