Seaford is a booming suburb of Victoria with lots of parks and beaches. It is situated 36 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s central business district and has a population of around 16,000.

History

The area of Seaford used to be known as the Karrum Karrum swamp. It was used for food by the Bunurong tribe. When Europeans arrived on the land, the swamp was drained for farming.

Seaford was given its name by a group of local residents. Councillor Sidney Plowman suggested the name Seaford after his home town of Sleaford in Lincolnshire, England. They agreed to drop the letter “l” from the name.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Seaford is home to some great cafes and an award-winning surf club. It offers easy access to trains and the freeway. There are lots of walking tracks along the beaches and creeks in the area.

You can find a good shopping strip with a bakery, Thai takeaway and pizza shop. Seaford also has a friendly pub with great food. As well as great local amenities, the town has beautiful public spaces including Seaford Foreshore Reserve, Keast Park and Seaford Wetlands.
