Scoresby is a suburban area just 29km east of Melbourne. It has a small population of around 6,000 people and is a part of the County of Mornington.

History

Scoresby is named after the famous Arctic explorer William Scoresby. He came to the area to conduct experiments shortly before it was first surveyed in 1857.
In the 1870’s a township grew and a school and church were soon built to serve the growing populace. Market Gardens were established following the draining of swampland in the area.

This grew into a fully-fledged industry during the 1950’s.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The main shopping area in Scoresby is called Scoresby Village. This is a precinct which has a supermarket as well as many other retail outlets. The Caribbean Gardens, located on Caribbean Lake is another popular destination for visitors. It is home to one of the largest markets in Australia, as well as recreational gardens and carnival rides.
