Welcome to Rupanyup, VIC

Rupanyup is a small town of rural Victoria, 260km north-west of Melbourne. It has a population of around 550 people.

History

Originally known as Lallat, Rupanyup was named after an Aboriginal word that means “branch hanging over water”. The town was first surveyed in 1873. On 22 February 1875, the Post Office opened and was named Karkarook. It was renamed Rupanyup in 1876.

Located on the Dunmunkle Creek, it is 49km east of Horsham and 18km east of Murtoa.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The town is home to an Australian rules football team that competes in the Horsham & District Football League, an amateur ARF league based in the Wimmera area of Victoria. There is also a golf club in the town on Frayne Avenue.

Woods’ Farming and Heritage Museum is a museum in the town with an amazing collection of engines, tractors, and farm and household memorabilia.
