Rowville is a suburb located 27km from Melbourne’s central business district. It has a population of 34,145. The suburb is one of the largest in the southeastern part of the city.

History

Established in 1882, Rowville took its name from the Row family. The suburb developed quickly in the 1980s and 1990s. This development was mainly residential. However, some small industrial and commercial business also opened.

Kalle Anka Shopping Centre opened in 1989. It has since changed its name to Stud Park Shopping Centre. There are more than 60 different stores in the centre.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

In addition to Stud Park Shopping Centre, Rowville has two other commercial hubs. These are called Wellington Village and Rowville Lakes. The suburb also boasts three golf courses.

Various sports teams represent Rowville. These include three teams in the Eastern Football League and three teams in the Ferntree Gully District Cricket Association.
