History

Oakleigh South came into being in the years after World War II. The suburb of Oakleigh expanded to the south-east as Melbourne’s population grew. As more and more people moved to Melbourne, more and more built their homes in Oakleigh South.

Many immigrants from Europe arrived during this population boom. A lot of the first homes to be built in Oakleigh South were built by Italian and Greek immigrants.

LIfestyle and Entertainment

Oakleigh South has excellent access to facilities such as cafes, restaurants, and shopping centres. It is also home to The Olympic Ice Skating Centre. Golfers can enjoy three clubs: The Commonwealth, The Huntingdale, and The Metropolitan.

The suburb has a number of parks and reserves. These include Davies and Talbot Park Reserve, Mavis Hunter Reserve, and Scammell Reserve.
