Nhill is a town that is situated on the Western Highway. It is located in the Wimmera equidistant from Adelaide and Melbourne. It has a population of 2,278.

History

Europeans first came to Nhill in 1845. In 1892, Nhill was given electric lighting, and it was the first town in Victoria apart from Melbourne to get electricity. The RAAF trained at the Nhill airport during World War Two. Between 1941 and 1946 over 10,000 aircrew received instruction from here.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

An annual event called the Nhill Show takes place on the second Thursday in October. There is an agricultural focus with rural farm machinery and farm animals to look at. There are also art and cooking competitions, and a fireworks display at the end of the day.
