History

The town was originally given the name Mt Clay after the mountain nearby. This name was later changed to Narrawong. Narrawong comes from an indigenous Australian word.

The area was traditionally used for agriculture including dairy farms and orchards.

Narrawong has become more residential over the years. In 1891, there were only 71 people living there, but recent figures from the 2011 census show 351 residents. The town has a number of amenities including a post office and general store. There is also a holiday and caravan park for people looking for accommodation in the area.
