Mt Waverley is a suburb of Melbourne, 16km southeast of the CBD. In the local government area of the City of Monash, is has a population of over 32,000.

History

Originally part of the Parish of Mulgrave, the Mt Waverley area was divided by straight roads exactly one mile apart running north-south and east-west in 1853 by Eugene Bellairs, an Assistant Surveyor. In 1905, the Mt Waverley Post Office opened.

In the 1930s, the suburb was a new estate. Due to the Great Depression, the houses on the estate weren’t built until the 1950s. The suburb is famous for its heritage streets.

The parks in Mt Waverley all contain large areas of remnant native bushland. These parks include Valley Reserve, Damper Creek Reserve, and Federal Reserve.

Mt Waverley has held a yearly Christmas Carols event every year which features hundreds of local performers and has drawn crowds of over 5,500.
