Mt Martha is in Melbourne 60km south-east of the Melbourne Central Business District. It is a seaside town, and there is a beach where you can swim. The population of Mt Martha is 17,087 according to the 2011 census.

History

In the 1800s the area was used for farming. The Martha Hotel was built in 1891. Today this building is listed as Victoria Heritage, and the town uses it as a community centre. During World War Two Mt Martha was used as a military base for a division of the United States Marine Corp.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

From the 1990s onwards there has been significant development in Mt Martha, and the population has been increasing. Mt Martha is popular with sports enthusiasts, and many people go to run on Bird Rock Beach. There is also a golf course.
