Mornington is a gorgeous seaside suburb on the Mornington Peninsula of Victoria. It has a population of around 22,400 and is loved for its beaches and village atmosphere.

History

Europeans settled in the area of Mornington in the 1840s. They used the land near Schnapper Point for fishing. It is believed that the town is named after the Earl of Mornington of County Mornington in Ireland.

A post office was opened in 1856 as Schnapper Point. It was renamed as Mornington in 1864. It wasn’t until the 1860s when Mornington saw its first holiday homes.

Mornington has plenty of restaurants, cafes and clothes shops to explore. When the weather is nice, you can go snorkelling in the bay. The area has a front beach and beautiful views of the Peninsula.

There are lots of parks and historical buildings in Mornington, as well as a library and cinema. The town holds some annual events and festivals. It also offers a market day, which brings hundreds of people to the town every Wednesday.
