Mordialloc is a suburb of Melbourne known simply as Mordi. Located 24km southeast of the CBD in the local government area of the City of Kingston, it has a population of over 7,500.

History

The suburb gets its name from the Boonwurrung language term “moordy yallock”. It means either “muddy creek” or “little sea”.

In 1863, Mordialloc Post Office opened. It was renamed Braeside Business Center in 1995 which led to a new post office opening near the railway station.

Arguably the most significant feature of the suburb is Mordialloc Creek. Mordialloc Creek is home to Pompei’s boat works and has a history of traditional wooden boat making.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Many classic boats line the banks of the creek in Mordialloc. There are three schools in the suburb which include Mordialloc College, Mordialloc Beach Primary, and St Brigids. It’s also home to an Australian Rules football team and the Woodlands Golf Club.
