Moe is a town that is located in Gippsland, Victoria. It is east of Melbourne, around 130km from the Central Business District. It has a population of 16,253.

History

In 1852 gold was discovered in the area. The settlement that was there at the time made a convenient place to stop on the journey to the goldfields up north. Moe became connected to the railway in 1878, and became a city in 1963.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Moe is an industrial area where coal mining and electricity production dominate. There is also a lot of dairy and wool farming.

One of the main attractions in Moe is Old Gippstown, an historic settlement that has been reconstructed along with an open air museum. It is located in a large area of parkland. Old Gippstown hosts events throughout the year including Carols by Candlelight and the Moe Jazz Festival.
