History

Like many towns in the state of Victoria, Lilydale is named after a prominent local figure. Lilly de Castella was the daughter of Colonel Joseph Anderson, one of the first nominated members of Victoria’s parliament. A railway station was built in Lilydale in 1882, connecting the town to other parts of the state. The town hall was built later in 1888.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Lilydale Falcons are the local football team, playing in the Eastern Football League. The area is home to the Yarra Ranges Regional Museum, as well as a number of parks and green areas nearby, including Lilydale Lake.
