Knoxfield is a suburb of Melbourne, 27km east of the CBD. In the local government area of the City of Knox, it has a population of over 7,100.

History

The suburb is named to honour the former local and state parliamentarian, Sir George Hodges Knox.

Development of the suburb started in the 1950s with rapid growth during the 1960s and 1970s. The north area of the suburb saw substantial growth from the 1970s onwards. The population of Knoxfield increased in the 1990s and then stabilised from the mid-90s onwards. In 1961 as the suburb developed, Knoxfield Post Office opened.

Uniquely, the streets in the suburb are all named after residents who have lived there. Some people still live in streets that were named after them.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Knoxfield is known for the Knox Athletics Track and the Gilbert Reserve. The Gilbert Reserve is a large sports ground that regularly holds baseball and softball matches.
