Kingsbury is a suburb of Melbourne, 14km northeast of the CBD, in the local government area of the City of Darebin. It has a population of over 3,300.

History

Kingsbury was named to honour Bruce Kingsbury VC, an Australian soldier who was killed in Papua New Guinea during WW2.

Settlement of the area dates from the late 1830s, however, significant development didn’t happen until the post-war years. A lot of this was due to the opening of La Trobe University in 1967.

An established suburb, there has recently been an increase in the number of new housing developments. The suburb used to be home to a golf course but this was built over in the 1960s for new housing. This is why one side of Kingsbury’s street names are named after golfing terms.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Kingsbury is home to two primary schools and La Trobe University. The suburb also has reserve parkland and playgrounds throughout. Bundoora Park is located close to the suburb.
