Kew is a peaceful suburb of Victoria 6 kilometres east from Melbourne’s busy central business district. It has a population of over 23,000 and some of the best schools in the state.

History

The area of Kew was once home to the Wurundjeri people. European Settlers named it the Parish of Boroondara in the 1840s. It means “a place of shade” in the Wurundjeri language. In 1840, a man called John Hodgson formed a squatter’s run at Studley Park.

Kew Junction took shape in the 1850s. The first store to open was owned by a man called J. J. French. It wasn’t until the end of the 1850s when lots of shops opened in the high street.

Kew is believed to be one of the most impressive suburbs in Melbourne. It has great access to public transport including tram routes and bus services. There are lots of great places to eat and shop in the town.
