Keilor is a Melbourne suburb found 18km north-west of the central business district. It has a population of more than 5,700.

History

Keilor is one of Australia’s oldest inhabited sites. Before overseas settlers arrived, the Wurundjeri people had cultivated the land for 40,000 years. European development began in the 1840s, and Keilor soon grew into a thriving farming community. After World War One, it took a gradual shift towards residential and industrial use. Recently, Keilor has become known for two prominent sports figures. Premier League footballer Mark Viduka grew up here, and NBA star Dante Exum once played for Keilor Thunder.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Still a fertile region, Keilor has many garden markets. The Maribyrnong River passes through the northern part of the suburb. This means plenty of chances for boating, fishing and hiking along the banks. Lots of wildlife can be spotted here too. In terms of retail, the Keilor Shopping Centre handles most local needs. Watergardens Town Centre is also very close by.
