Irymple is a small town 8km south of Mildura and 535km north-west of Melbourne. It lies in the Sunraysia district in the north-western corner of Victoria.

History

The area used to be a pastoral leasehold. The word “Irymple” is of Aboriginal origin and means “waterhole”. Irymple’s post office opened in 1892. A school followed a year later. The extension of the railway line from Ouyen to Mildura brought a station to Irymple. Within a decade lots of fruit packing companies settled down here.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Irymple is a rural town with its own kindergarten and library. The social heart of the town is the community centre. The local shops sell everything you need for day-to-day life.

There is also plenty to do for the active type. That is because Irymple is home to various sports facilities including a swimming pool. Or you can choose to explore the landscape surrounding the town. The area is very agricultural. Many of the local farmers grow grapevines, vegetables, and chillies.
