History
Horsham was connected to Melbourne by rail in 1879. Horsham grew rapidly in the 20th century. It became a town in 1932, and city in 1949.
Horsham has been hit by several natural disasters. It suffered major flooding from the Wimmera River in 1894 and 1909 and again in 2010 and 2011. In 2009 it was damaged by the Black Saturday bushfires.

Horsham has a number of festivals throughout the year. These cover everything from arts and music to gardening. Sport is popular in Horsham, and there are lots of facilities such as gyms, an indoor stadium and an aquatic centre. There is also a golf course, a flying club and a horse racing club. In 2001 and in 2015 Horsham was chosen as Australia’s Tidiest Town.
