Originally part of the John Pascoe Fawkner estate, the suburb of Hadfield is 13 kilometres to the North of Melbourne’s central business district.

History

The area saw a significant increase in urban development in the years following World War II. Stretching from West Street to Sydney Road, and from South Street to Holton Street, the suburb now boasts a population of roughly 5,370 people. Hadfield is also home to the Fawkner Crematorium and Memorial Park, as well as Hadfield Football Club, the Merlynston Creek, and the West Street Shopping Centre.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Shopping in Hadfield is by no means limited to West Street, as there are other shopping districts on East Street, North Street, and South Street. There are a number of bus roots throughout Hadfield, which is also serviced by both the Craigieburn and Upfield railway lines. Cyclists can make use of the Western Ring Road Trail, as well as the Upfield Bike Path, for both practical travel and recreation.
