We provide our services to all commercial, residential and industrial sectors.
I created Rent "n" Sew 44 years ago after I enquired about hiring a domestic sewing machine, only to find out that in 1976 one could not hire a sewing machine in Sydney or Melbourne! And that is when Rent n Sew was created. I invested in a number of domestic sewing machines and started advertising.

After I received enquiries to hire industrial sewing machines, I then invested in a few different types of industrial machines, did a sewing machine mechanic’s course, and Rent n Sew was up and running.

Since then, the business has grown and continues to attract new customers. As well as renting sewing machines, both domestic and industrial, I also sell and repair sewing machines.

We hire and sell to everyone who requires a sewing machine, including theatre and film studio wardrobes, sewing contractors, home-based or factory-based manufacturers, students, fashion students, clothing alteration businesses, secondary schools and community service projects.

    The following industrial machines are available for hire: plain sewing machines - computerised and manual, 4-thread or 5-thread overlockers, cover stitch, walking foot, blind hem, overlock with elastic metering device, etc.

  • What type of domestic machines do you hire?

    We hire the latest type of domestic sewing machines including overlockers.

  • Do you have long term and short-term hire?

    Yes, long term and short-term hire is available. For industrial machine hire, minimum term is one month (4 weeks). For domestic machine hire, this is on a weekly basis.​

  • For industrial machine hire, do I have to hire month to month?

    No, after the first month's hire, the rental can be diverted to a weekly or fortnightly basis.

  • If I hire a machine from you, is maintenance included?

    Yes, it is. We are 100% responsible for the machine while you are hiring.

  • Can I purchase the machine on a rent-to-buy basis?

    Following your decision to purchase, after having rented the machine, a suitable arrangement can be made.

  • Do you lay by machines?

    Yes, we do. An initial deposit is required and appropriate, regular instalments would be arranged.

  • Can you give me advice on what machinery I would require launching​ a label, fashion range or for any other job or project?

    Yes, we can. This would be arranged by appointment.

  • Do you work on the weekends?

    Yes, we do work on weekends. We are available all day Saturday and part of Sunday.
