Footscray is a central suburb of Melbourne. It is located 5km to the west of the Central Business District. It has a population of 15,259.

History

The first building to be put up in Footscray was the Punt Hotel in 1842. To begin with, all its trade came from people moving cattle and sheep through the area. In 1851 gold was found further west, and diggers who came to the area brought business to the pub. Part of the Punt Hotel is still there. It is now called The Pioneer.
