Delahey is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria 20 kilometres north of the central business district. It has a population of about 8,400 and a friendly community.

History

Delahey is named after a man called William Delahey. He was still a baby at the time. His family had arrived in the area from Ireland in 1840. William Delahey went on to be connected with the Keilor Shire Council for 18 years. He was elected president in 1882 and the suburb adopted his name in 1994.

The area of Delahey used to be home to many farming properties. In the 1980s, the government divided the land and built lots of houses.

Delahey is a great area for nice walks and exercise. There is a vet in the town and some takeaway outlets. You can find plenty of shopping centres about a 10-minute drive from the suburb.

There is a big park with two playgrounds in the middle of town. You can also find some schools and bus services in Delahey.
