About Simply Oregon

AT A GLANCE
  • Fine sawn Oregon timber
  • Dressed Oregon timber
  • Long lengths & solid large sections of Oregon Wood
Oregon timber solutions for owner-builder projects. Pre-cut & cut to size pieces of enduring strength & quality.
Welcome to Simply Oregon, one of the leading retail suppliers of cut to size and pre-cut Coastal Canadian Oregon. Simply Oregon (Douglas Fir) has been long recognised throughout Canada and the United States as one of the strongest softwoods on the market. It has a reputation as an excellent all-purpose wood of great dependability and appearance.

We pride ourselves on our ability to supply a wide variety of Oregon sizes and lengths for a diverse range of applications.

Pre-cut Oregon: Pre-cut material is machined to a finished size and graded at the saw mill before being shipped to Australia. Typically this will be found in timber which has been "rougher headed" to finished sizes 147x47mm, 197x47mm and 247x47mm. We routinely stock all of these sizes in lengths ranging from 3.6m to 7.2m. Pre-cut material is only sold as F7 grade only.

We bring the majority of our Oregon timber to Australia in flitch form (large oblong sections) which we then cut to size to meet everyone's individual requirement. Our flitch is green and we offer various grades.

FAQs

  • We hear that the timber available today is not the same high standard that was available years ago. Is this true?

No, the majority of our timber comes direct from Vancouver Island, Canada and the quality is the same as it was years ago. The grain is all medium to fine and the Canadians manage their Forest Industry to a very high standard.

  • Can Oregon be used externally?

Yes it can, but it should always be under cover (should have a roof or similar above). It is also imperative to protect any timbers being exposed to the elements with an oil based primer or wood preservative. All parts of the timber should be sealed before being fixed. Oil repels water.

  • Can we purchase long lengths?

Yes, we have lengths up to 11.4m available. Our shortest length being 1.8m going up in increments of 600mm.

  • What grade of timber should I use for an exposed beam?

Anything being seen either internally or externally should be Free of Heart Centre Material. This means that as the timbers dry, there will be minimal movement. The other reason for using Free of heart timber externally is as the timber dries, you do not want it to split through to the heart.

  • Can Oregon be Treated.

Until recently the answer was no, however we are now delighted to confirm that we are now able to offer H3 (above ground) Treatment. There are two options, the first being H3 TRU-CORE Green (Copper Quat) which covers Borers, Termites and Severe Decay. The other being H3 TRU-CORE Clear (Azole) which covers Borers, Termites and Moderate Decay. Either way, it is still imperative to use an oil based primer or similar to protect the timbers for outdoor applications.
