Cobram is a town on the Murray River in Victoria. It lies 260km north of Melbourne and has a population of just over 6,000 people.

History

The area now known as Cobram used to be the home of various indigenous tribes including the Angootheraban people. The first European to arrive here was Charles Sturt, who was herding cattle in this area back in 1838. Although the area had a station since 1845 it took until 1888 before Cobram became an official township.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Today, Cobram is the centre of the Shire of Moira. Most shops and cafés are on Punt Road and Main Street. The town centre features some beautiful historic buildings including the Cobram Hotel and the Masonic Lodge.

The surrounding landscape is also worth exploring. Due to the warm, stable climate the region is home to luscious pastures, colourful fruit plantations and romantic vineyards.
